Nowadays, most households not only hold houses but also several computers. The father has a collection of holiday pictures stored on his desktop computer, but wants to have the same data on his notebook, too. The mother manages a collection of great recipes on the same desktop computer. And there are the two teenagers who like to use that computer for gaming. No question, from time to time they will copy software from their friends, and make the system more and more unstable or even bring in viruses. This frequent family / computers situation asks for one single thing: an easy to use but reliable backup system. But what are the requirements? The father doesn't want to store the mother's recipes on his notebook. Whenever he downloads pictures from his camera to his desktop computer, the same pictures should be available on his notebook with little effort. And because the notebook may be stolen and the desktop computer's system may be destroyed by gaming children, the backup has to be stored on an external drive. What is described above is about the reason why the synchronization tool named ShimaSync was programmed. There also was a certain unhappyness about Apple Inc. and its policy that iTunes for Windows can only synchronize iPods, but no portable MP3 players of other produce. So the father who owns an iPod is very happy. But what about the mother who owns a player produced by e.g. Creative? Shall another software be installed that allows her to organize her music? And the player from Sony the young daughter just got for Christmas requires a third software that does about the same as the other two applications. Needless to say that, obviously, the industry doesn't like happy users of their devices. Standardization is the topic, but as that does not exist you have to use another tool. That is where ShimaSync comes to the dancing floor, too. ShimaSync is a synchronization tool that allows backups from different machines into one central backup system, optionally allowing incremental backup and versioning. Another key feature is the synchronization of portable MP3 players with iTunes playlists. Those two key features are currently under beta status and tested intensively. The software offers an intuitive graphical user interface that allows the fast execution of synchronization tasks with only little user interaction. |
